Meet the mental health team at Paramount Health & Wellness, serving Portsmouth, Virginia and the greater Hampton Roads area. Our psychiatric care is led by Dr. Relindis N. Mutia, a dual board-certified Family and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of Paramount Health and Wellness PLLC. Dr. Mutia has more than 12 years of medical experience diagnosing and managing patients across the lifespan, with particular depth in chronic disease management, including chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease, and kidney transplant care, alongside her psychiatric and primary care practice.
Dr. Mutia takes a holistic, patient-centered approach that treats mental and physical health as connected systems rather than separate concerns. She works with each patient's unique history and circumstances to build an evidence-based, individualized plan of care, whether that means medication management, psychotherapy, trauma-informed treatment, or a combination tailored to what the patient actually needs. Beyond direct patient care, Dr. Mutia is also passionate about developing the next generation of providers. She serves as a preceptor to Nurse Practitioner students and has mentored numerous NPs throughout her career, a role she continues today.
Our mental health services include psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy delivered with the same continuity of care as our primary care services, since both fall under one integrated practice and one shared patient chart. Same-week appointments are available for new patients, which matters for anyone who has waited weeks elsewhere for a psychiatric evaluation. We accept Tricare for spouses, dependents, and retirees, along with Medicare, making psychiatric care accessible to the many military families and veterans who call Hampton Roads home, particularly those connected to Naval Station Norfolk and JEB Little Creek. For patients who prefer or need virtual care, statewide telehealth is available across Virginia.
